I particularly enjoy my periodic visits to Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. The preaching is solidly based on the Bible and the church family is warm and welcoming. The senior pastor at CHBC, Mark Dever, is well-connected with the church in England, having spent some time in Cambridge while taking his doctorate.
So it is with pleasure that I hear that Mark’s latest book, The Message of the Old Testament: Promises Made, has at last been published. It runs to 960 pages and devotes a chapter-sermon to each book of the Old Testament, following the pattern of his earlier book The Message of the New Testament: Promises Kept.
Graeme Goldsworthy wrote the introduction, and Vaughan Roberts had this to say:
“This is a bold project, some might say foolhardy, but Mark Dever has brilliantly succeeded. This is no mere textbook; it is powerful preaching. We are not only introduced to the sweep and message of each book of the Bible but, above all, confronted by our great God and called to obey his living word.”
