Apparently Google have been testing cars that drive themselves, and not just down back streets. I guess the 1950s were right about the future after all.

Our automated cars use video cameras, radar sensors and a laser range finder to “see” other traffic, as well as detailed maps (which we collect using manually driven vehicles) to navigate the road ahead.

If you haven’t come across the Paxman/Russell Brand interview, do have a look. It’s not entirely clear that Brand isn’t the interviewer. Paxman seems taken aback — pleasantly. But the real treat is Brand’s insight into contemporary culture. Is he Dan Strange in a wig?

An everlasting covenant 0

I‘ve just put up a sermon I preached yesterday on Isaiah 61, about God’s everlasting covenant. It was very encouraging for me to spend time studying and meditating on Isaiah 61, which proclaims God’s favour and his comfort of those who mourn. Even if you don’t listen to the sermon, listen to the passage, and imagine Jesus applying it to himself when he preached it.

» At the moment, I am enjoying the Arte Nova recording of Tschaikowsky: Aleko/Iolanta (Gesamtaufnahme) (Aufnahme Novosibirsk Juni 1996)Rachmaninov's Aleko and Tchaikovsky's Iolanta (1994). Much like Naxos's, Arte Nova's strategy is to produce cheaper recordings than mainstream labels by using relatively unknown European singers. As from any budget label, there are many recordings that are merely acceptable for the price, but there are also a few gems, in which category I am convinced Iolanta, especially, falls.
